Dirty Blonde Ale

Last night Jeremy and I opted for a night in. Originally, it was supposed to be hurricanning all over the place, but we never really saw anything more than light rain. Since the weather was going to be so bad,  we figured we would eat pizza here while watching Season 2 of the X-Files, our new favorite Netflix addiction.

I made two types of pizza on homemade whole wheat crust: white & veggie pizza.

In addition to our pizza we had, in my opinion, some of the best beer on the Seacoast. Last Christmas my Secret Santa gave me a growler from the Portsmouth Brewery. If you aren’t  familiar, a growler is a large, refillable beer jug. You walk in, choose your beer, pay $10, and come home with wonderful draft beer. We went with the Dirty Blonde Ale which is my favorite Portsmouth Brewery brew.

From the website: "DIRTY BLONDE ALE – Our most popular beer is a friendly, golden ale that pairs well with a wide range of foods and occasions."

I don’t have a lot planned for this weekend other than laundry and getting ready for students on Tuesday.

What are your plans for the weekend?

Goodbye World Cup

Today was a such a relaxing day. After breakfast and hanging out for awhile, I got everything going in the breadmaker for pizza dough and then Jeremy and I went for a walk. We’ve been walking almost every day the last few weeks, and it has been such a nice time to spend with each other.

Once we got back it was time to make pizzas. In Homespun Sunday style, this was all made here. While Jeremy took care of some dishes from yesterday, I chopped all the veggies for our pizza.

IMG_3338 This was some of the best pizza we have made yet.  Since getting my breadmaker at Christmas, I’ve made all but maybe one or two of the crusts that we’ve used for pizza. This one was perfect though and half wheat flour. This crust was way better than the packaged in plastic kind.

Today our pizzas were almost the same, except I had extra basil and no green pepper. I did not make the pizza sauce, maybe that is something to think about for next time.

We enjoyed our pizza while watching World Cup. I’ve really enjoyed World Cup this year. After the US lost, I threw my support behind the Netherlands, but sadly they did not win today. Maybe I’m bad luck. Good for Spain though; they played so well. While I was watching the match, I thought about where I was four years ago during World Cup (directing at a youth camp). Then I thought about where I would be in four years for the next World Cup. I realized I had absolutely no idea. We could literally be anywhere.

Where were you four years ago or where might you be in four years?

Moose!

The last few days have been so busy. On Thursday I left school early, Jeremy and I met some friends from Texas in Salem, MA. It was so good to see people from so far away and hear a Texas accent again. What some people up here may not understand is that some southern accents, specifically a Texas accent, can be very comforting. We ate lunch at Salem Beer Works, and I had one of the best pizzas I’ve had since Italy. It was called the Fenway.  Horrible name but the pesto was just right, not too much of a licorice flavor, and the tomatoes burst when you bit them.

After lunch, we headed to the Salem Witch Museum, which I’ve now been to three times. People love a diorama. After the museum we went to the House of Seven Gables.

IMG_2289 IMG_2290 For pure nerd reference a gable is a triangle peak on a sloping roof. The tour was great but some of the people on the tour were really annoying. They were the type of people who try to inform the tour guide of their “own findings.” It was a beautiful spring  day with lots of sunshine and warmth. We wandered around, stopping and sitting in the shade when we felt like it.

Friday was another sunshine day with a twist. During my prep I was sitting at my desk just minding my own business. Another teacher came into the room saying, “There’s a moose! A moose!” Side Note: I have been trying to see a moose every since I moved to NH. We have hiked and camped and never seen a moose. The moose was very young and obviously lost. It finally ran away. I hope it made it back to some safe place. By a stroke of luck I had my camera at school today.

Seeing a moose during the day at school obviously created lots of chaos and rowdy students. It took me a few minutes to get my freshmen down from a full boil to a simmer.

After school I chaperoned a barbeque. Jeremy came to hang out with me. When we got home at 6:30, he watered the garden and then we fell asleep for four  hours. Oops! It’s now 1 am. Oh well.

Have you ever seen a moose? I still want to see one in the wilds of Northern New Hampshire.

Only Tuesday

This week is going slow. But it’s not a bad week so far, so I’ll take it. Tonight Jeremy and I went for a jog before dinner.  It is so much easier to be active, in my opinion, when there isn’t snow on the ground. New England is just lovely this time of year. The birds are so loud in the morning, I could probably throw my alarm clock in the closet until winter. But let’s be honest my Blackberry is my alarm, and I could never go without it.  After our jog, I was excited to come back and use the newest thing I found online to feed my obsession with statistics, numbers and tracking -  Dailymile.com.

I stumbled onto this site a few days ago, and I’m a little hooked. You can track all different kinds of activity. One of my favorite features is mapping your route. Other sites I’ve seen use Google maps to track routes but it usually ends up being more work than it’s worth; I don’t what  form of Gmaps Dailymile uses but it is very fluid. It’s great.

After we got back, Jeremy popped the pizzas he made before we left into the oven. They were a great Tuesday night dinner. Mine had broccoli, red pepper, and leftover Meat House chicken on it. And his had chicken, red pepper and feta (I hate feta! Gag!). I also had a small side salad with mine using more of my fresh lettuce from the farmer’s market.

IMG_2267 Have you ever heard of maple leaf lettuce? That’s the kind on the left. It looks just like a maple leaf, so odd.

I enjoyed my pizza while watching the game. It’s so chilly tonight; I might need to have some tea before bed.

Giveaway!
Traveleatlove is hosting an Olivia’s Organics giveaway. This was the first type of organic baby spinach  I ever purchased, and it’s really the only one I ever purchase. They have all sorts of salad types though; you should check them out.

Lettuce Wraps and Pizza Dilemmas

Even though the last few days at school have been hellacious, I have made my days good.  I just keep telling myself 4 days until vacation, 3 days until vacation. Tomorrow marks 2 days until vacation.  Spring is in the air, and we have had some great dinners this week.

On Monday night, we had lettuce wraps. These are the only lettuce wraps I’ve ever had, but now I really want to order them at a restaurant. I basically just threw together a bunch of veggies (shoots, cabbage, carrots) and chicken. The cool, crisp lettuce was slowly wilted by the ginger and soy sauce flavored filling.

Today, Jeremy and I went for a run when he got home. I think, for the first time today, I was actually able to regulate my breathing and really understand what it means to get in a stride. The weather was perfect – low 60’s and sunny.  We did pass a skunk and there were mosquitoes everywhere already, but that didn’t bring me down.

Last night, I tried to make pizza dough, but was not paying attention and added only half of the flour the recipe called for. Major disaster! Today Jeremy measured the flour, and I didn’t explain the process. You know spoon the flour in and level it off. So the dough we made today was firm to say the least. At first, I didn’t think it was going to work at all, which led me to beg Jeremy to go to our local pizza place and buy dough from them. While he was gone, I was able to work the dough into some sort of semblance of a pizza.  We ended up with a dinner pizza and a lunch pizza.

Tomorrow is Thursday, my long day. I can’t wait to be in Denver with my friends living the mile-high life.

Time for bed and reading; Lolita has me hooked.
