So-So Weekend

This weekend has been ok. Friday was probably the highlight.

On Saturday, I got up ate breakfast, loafed around and then went to tutor a student (not one of mine) at a local library. He was a pleasure to work with and really just needed help formulating his ideas for his college entrance personal response. Two hours later, Jeremy and I grabbed the few groceries we needed and then came home and took a nap.

Usually, I work out on Saturdays and rarely ever on Fridays; it was nice to change it up this week. Apparently, I went a little overboard with the squats on Friday because I’ve been walking like a cowboy for the last two days.

After nap time (really my favorite part of any day), I made a salad and baked an apple pie to take over to a friend’s house who just had a baby. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of the pie after I baked it. But the topping was my favorite part, with wheat flour, cinnamon, oats, and of course butter.

Wonderfully gracious people give other people who have babies food, and Jeremy and I got to partake in some of it. The pie was great, the salad stellar(I love roasting walnuts to go on top), and a big thanks to whoever gave them this awesome chicken pot pie.

I could definitely taste rosemary and thyme, both of which I love. Yes, it’s in a Pi plate. This is what happens when you hang out with math nerds.

This morning, I spent a considerable amount of time finishing up grades, working on my syllabi for next semester, and just making general preparations. Tomorrow is a teacher work day, so thankfully, I will have even more time to work and prepare for classes starting on Tuesday.  There are so many things I’m supposed to teach in a semester and just seriously not enough time.

I think both Jeremy and I are ready for Spending Purge month to be over. We miss eating out and there are very few things you can do outside of home without spending money. With that said, we did go on a great walk today and enjoyed the 35 degree weather. Hello heat wave!

Happy MLK Day!

I love Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  Usually, I do something to celebrate – a museum, an event, service. This year however, there is at least 10 inches of snow outside. Everything is canceled or closed, so I’ll be celebrating at home.

Finally, I remembered to save my jar for Oats in a  Jar. I didn’t save enough PB, so I had to add a little on the top.

102_9631 After breakfast, I did venture out in the treacherous conditions to drive a friend to drop off her vandalized car. This is what happens when you go leave your car in Dorchester over night.

Since I couldn’t really go anywhere, I made sure to listen to the “I Have a Dream” speech,

read “Letter from a Birmingham Jail,” and have a little sing along with “Lift Every Voice and Sing”.

Yesterday, Jeremy and I put together some personal hygiene packs for the people in Haiti and dropped them off at a local church that was collecting. It seemed like so little. Whatever you decide to do, please do something, and if you’re eligible, give blood.

Rochester, NY

Christmas was so much fun. The hubs and I spent time with his family in Rochester, NY. It was, as always, an enjoyable time. Jeremy’s sister, brother, and his wife were all there. Between ringing bells for Salvation Army(yes the father-in-law dressed like Santa), cookie decorating contests, minor league hockey games and delicious food, I still found time to go work out, which really made everything even more enjoyable.

Jeremy and I did one run outside, which I think was a good prep for the 5k on Friday. As of right now, it’s supposed to snow/rain on Friday. I really don’t like the idea of running in that weather, considering I’m not much of an outdoor runner in the first place.

I was worried about making healthy food choices over the time at “home,” but overall I think I did ok. Obviously, I ate things I wouldn’t normally eat at home, but  I think it went well. One really was nice was having a breakfast buddy. My sister-in-law and I had oats every morning, and they were a great way to start the day. We also went to the gym together on the 26th.

I am really, really excited to use the newest edition to my kitchen.

I researched a lot of bread-makers before deciding on this one. While I haven’t gotten to use it yet, a feature I really like is that you can remove the paddle before you bake the loaf. There will be many posts to come of wonderful, delicious breads.

I should be back to posting frequently from now on. Up next, Anniversary #5 and Burlington, VT.

Rainy day . . .

Today has been a humdinger. I started off today with oatmeal and coffee. It may have been the best part of my day.

Do you ever have those days where you seriously consider grabbing your passport and seeing how far you can get? Today was one of those days.

My students were totally out of control. One specifically, who demanded I give him his papers to rip up. (No, I do not work in a pre-school, but I do work with EH students in a high school.) He proceeded to accuse me of intentionally misgrading and loosing his papers; papers which I later found in his binder. Long story short, he had to be taken from my class. Thank goodness, I had a wonderful Trader Joe’s Black Bean soup, tortilla chips, and pineapple waiting for me at lunch time.

My day ended with more rain and a trip to the dentist to get my teeth cleaned. I really, really disliked the hygienist who cleaned my teeth.  She apparently thought I was an idiot (I’m sure she is one) because she explained to me how to work the suction thing. I mean hello! Do I look four to you? She also made me wear goggles, which kept falling off because I was laying at an incline. There were a sundry of other things that drove me crazy.  I love my dentist, but he needs to let this woman go.

A glass of wine and some dinner with my husband should put in a better mood. Back for dinner.

Day 1 of Documenting my Eats

I started today by sleeping in until 10, which is really late. It was lovely. I got up and made Jeremy and I some oatmeal with cinnamon and brown sugar.

We also split a banana. We hung out for awhile and watched some ESPN. I read some blogs and purchased these boots. I really hope they fit and get here quickly.

Before we went to the gym I made us a snack: carrots, pita, tortilla chips, green pepper and hummus. Each of us followed that up with a clementine. Also, in the spirit of honesty, I ate a snack size 3 musketeers. I really want to finish this hummus, so I can break into my 3 Layer Trader Joe’s hummus. I love that stuff.

Jeremy and I  had a great work out at the gym. Usually, we each do our own thing, but today we did some cardio together and then did sit ups and weights. It’s much more fun that way. After we got back, I had a Yoplait Light Very Vanilla yogurt.

The rest of the day soon. . .
