Whirlwind November

October was great. There was lots of fall flavored beer.

I got to dress like a Yankee, even if he was a naughty one.

Then I spent some time hanging out with Stan Marsh.

The leaves surprised me and turned magnificent, all while it was still warm enough to wear sandals.

And I got to see my brother.

Now I’m preparing myself for November to be a whirlwind. It seems one or both of us has something going on every single week. While I think it will be a lot of fun, I also think we will be crazy busy.

Week 1 – I’m leaving on Thursday to go to MI to see friends and for a baby shower, and Jeremy is attending a topology conference.

Week 2 – I have a really weird work week (only three days with students) because of Veteran’s day and then a professional development day. We also really need to get our Christmas shopping done this week.

Week 3 – HARRY POTTER premiers. Yes this is an important event, yes it’s been on my calendar for over 6 months. While we won’t go to the midnight showing this year because there is no way I can get home at 3 or 4 and be up at five. We will be going on the weekend.

Week 4 – This is a two day work week. We are going to NY for Thanksgiving, celebrating Christmas with Jeremy’s side of the family, and running a 5k.

With two out of town trips, all of the job application deadlines Jeremy has, plus all of the things I’m sure I just don’t know about yet, it’s going to be a crazy month. I’m sure I will look back on this post in a few weeks and think it’s only been a few days.

Visiting the Big Orange

While no one ever loves for a weekend to end, I am particularly disappointed that this one is over. Jeremy and I went to Syracuse, NY.  Jeremy was speaking at a conference at the university, and I went to visit my brother who just turned 25 on Thursday.

We had a great trip. The highlights included Jeremy’s excellent talk, a lunch with Jeremy’s parents, dinner with the brother, a beer sampler,  a trip to Wegmans which included an Alec Baldwin sighting, and a sunny ride home.

80 Years and Going Strong

February 17 was my Nana’s 80th birthday.

My family in Virginia had a huge surprise party for her last weekend.  Jeremy and I flew into Richmond, got a rental car and waited for my brother and his gf to arrive. Then, the four of us, drove the 1.5 hours from Richmond to Charlottesville. Our rental car was a piece but the weather in VA couldn’t have been better. It was 50 degrees and sunny, which is way different from the weather we’ve seen in NH lately.

All of my Nana’s kids were there, her brother, and two sisters were there plus a lot of there kids. Even her best friend from Florida came up. My Nana has 6 kids, 17 grand kids, and 4 great grand kids. The grands and great-grands alone filled up a lot of space at the party.  I think everyone had a great time.  There was tons of food, (Fried Chicken, Rolls, Mashed Potatoes w/Gravy, Mac & Cheese, Collard Greens, and Green Beans), welcome to VA. There were lots of people hanging out drinking tea and laughing, and cake which my cousin Tina made; yes I had to eat a piece and a half. So good!

Of course there were group pictures where it’s impossible to get everyone to look at the same camera.

Saturday was great. Sunday we all went out to eat after church at a buffet, I know. Worst food consumption weekend ever. I tried to make some good choices, like eating huge salad, but there’s only so much you can do.

After lunch Jeremy, my brother, his gf and I drove back to Richmond.  Two long great days. . . Richmond post tomorrow.

Rochester, NY

Christmas was so much fun. The hubs and I spent time with his family in Rochester, NY. It was, as always, an enjoyable time. Jeremy’s sister, brother, and his wife were all there. Between ringing bells for Salvation Army(yes the father-in-law dressed like Santa), cookie decorating contests, minor league hockey games and delicious food, I still found time to go work out, which really made everything even more enjoyable.

Jeremy and I did one run outside, which I think was a good prep for the 5k on Friday. As of right now, it’s supposed to snow/rain on Friday. I really don’t like the idea of running in that weather, considering I’m not much of an outdoor runner in the first place.

I was worried about making healthy food choices over the time at “home,” but overall I think I did ok. Obviously, I ate things I wouldn’t normally eat at home, but  I think it went well. One really was nice was having a breakfast buddy. My sister-in-law and I had oats every morning, and they were a great way to start the day. We also went to the gym together on the 26th.

I am really, really excited to use the newest edition to my kitchen.

I researched a lot of bread-makers before deciding on this one. While I haven’t gotten to use it yet, a feature I really like is that you can remove the paddle before you bake the loaf. There will be many posts to come of wonderful, delicious breads.

I should be back to posting frequently from now on. Up next, Anniversary #5 and Burlington, VT.
