Turning 90!

In case you missed it, we’ve been a tour of the south.

On Saturday, we caravanned to Sedalia, Mo for Jeremy’s grandfather’s 90th birthday. When you’re 90, a birthday party is a big family reunion. First we ate at Golden Corral (blech!), then we went to Jeremy’s grandpa’s house for the rest of the afternoon. I got to meet two of Jeremy’s cousins I had never met before and get to know his family better.  It was such a great day. His grandparents couldn’t have been happier to have us all there.  One of Jeremy’s aunts made us all bright yellow t-shirts with the Lithuanian flag on them. Jeremy’s grandfather was born in Lithuania and immigrated to the US when he was just a little boy.

This day was too good to ruin with too many words, so I’ll give it to you mostly in pictures.

After pictures and dessert, it was time for serious baggo/cornhole/bean bag toss play.

Once we finished playing, I went inside to watch Jeremy’s aunt use her spinning wheel. Wow! I am really glad we don’t have to make our own wool anymore. I would be naked if we did. Jacque was a natural;I needed serious assistance.

I think everyone had a great day.

After the party we all headed back home to get some sleep. Sunday would be another full day.

Happy Birthday for Jeremy

Since today is Jeremy’s birthday, today has been all about him. I got inspiration for Jeremy’s birthday lunch/dinner from Two Boos Who Eat. They just finished a holiday in Hawaii. After reading some of their posts I researched some classic foods from Hawaii.  One of them is a Hawaii Plate Lunch; I knew this was a meal Jeremy would love. But first, per his request, we started with homemade cinnamon rolls.

After cinnamon rolls this morning  we went on a long walk to in some small way offset all of today’s delicious calories.

We had a late lunch of barbeque pulled pork, mac salad, and corn on the cob. We were both so hungry that we just dug in sans picture, but here are some of the  tropical theme decorations I put up in the yard.

For Jeremy’s birthday dessert, I made peanut butter pie. This is the best pie ever,  and it is so  easy.

Easy as pie, wink wink.  I love these little plates.

Gotta get back to more Phase 10.

A Happy Birthday Weekend

Saturday was my 27th birthday.  Jeremy decided to treat me to a night in Boston. If there is one thing, I love it’s hotels. We Hotwired a hotel and took the train down. We ended up at The Langham off Congress Street; gotta love 4.5 stars. This hotel was great, although I was surprised by the age of the TV. From the second we walked in the service was impeccable; they even upgraded our room. It didn’t hurt that the man who was checking us in had a British accent.

After checking in and looking around, Jeremy and I headed out to do a little shopping. I found a cute cotton summer dress at T.J. Maxx, which will be nice if it ever gets warm here. After shopping, we went back and to get ready for dinner. Jeremy talked to the concierge  and found a place to eat in the North End.  While it was beautiful in New England last week, it was pretty chilly this weekend. We walked over to Panza a little after 7 for our 7:30 reservation.

Panza is a little cramped, but the food was great. We ordered a bottle of Dragani and split the bruschetta. Next I had a the Chicken Panza and Jeremy had the Rigatoni and Sausage with Goat Cheese.

This food tasted very authentic and both of our sauces were very light.

When we finished eating, we started strolling back to the hotel. There was, no surprise, a huge line outside of Mike’s Pastry (I’ve never eaten here because of the constant line). We decided we could live without dessert. We were strolling when we came upon two pedi cab drivers. They were loud and funny, so we decided to take a ride. I’ve never taken a pedi cab ride before but he was fast. It is certainly cheaper and more green than an actual taxi ride.

After getting back to the hotel, we popped into Bond, the lounge at the hotel. It was so pretty inside. I loved the chandeliers.

We lounged for a little bit and then headed upstairs to the extremely comfortable pillows and bed. It was a great birthday, but I wish every night when I go to bed there could be a chocolate there for me with slippers by my bed.

80 Years and Going Strong

February 17 was my Nana’s 80th birthday.

My family in Virginia had a huge surprise party for her last weekend.  Jeremy and I flew into Richmond, got a rental car and waited for my brother and his gf to arrive. Then, the four of us, drove the 1.5 hours from Richmond to Charlottesville. Our rental car was a piece but the weather in VA couldn’t have been better. It was 50 degrees and sunny, which is way different from the weather we’ve seen in NH lately.

All of my Nana’s kids were there, her brother, and two sisters were there plus a lot of there kids. Even her best friend from Florida came up. My Nana has 6 kids, 17 grand kids, and 4 great grand kids. The grands and great-grands alone filled up a lot of space at the party.  I think everyone had a great time.  There was tons of food, (Fried Chicken, Rolls, Mashed Potatoes w/Gravy, Mac & Cheese, Collard Greens, and Green Beans), welcome to VA. There were lots of people hanging out drinking tea and laughing, and cake which my cousin Tina made; yes I had to eat a piece and a half. So good!

Of course there were group pictures where it’s impossible to get everyone to look at the same camera.

100_0428 I’m holding my cousin Leroy’s baby. She was adorable and super sweet.

Saturday was great. Sunday we all went out to eat after church at a buffet, I know. Worst food consumption weekend ever. I tried to make some good choices, like eating huge salad, but there’s only so much you can do.

After lunch Jeremy, my brother, his gf and I drove back to Richmond.  Two long great days. . . Richmond post tomorrow.
