It’s true that I often watch too much TV, but the fact is I have loved TV since I was a very little kid. I cut my teeth on late night episodes of Kojack with my dad. Once you’ve loved Telly Savalas, there’s no going back. Crime dramas always make you want to come back for more.

Thanks to Netflix Instant my current crime drama of choice is Dexter. Jeremy and I are only two seasons in, so no spoilers please. The basic premise for the show is that Dexter is a serial killer, who only kills bad people. This sounds so simple, but leads to numerous complications like should I really like this killer. In addition to the the drama and gore, there is humor and excellent writing.

Because of my severely over active imagination, I’ve had to come up with some rules for watching Dexter. If you’re anything like me, you may want to observe them. I came to these rules after countless sleepless nights.

1. Never begin an episode of Dexter after nine. This is similar to feeding a Mogwai/Gremlin after midnight; only bad things will happen.
2. Never watch more than two episodes in a row. Watching more than two in a row will fuel high blood pressure and induce severe anxiety.
3. Never, ever watch alone! No matter how brave you think you are, you can’t handle it.

If you follow these simple rules, you can enjoy Dexter responsibly.
