Olympics XXX

World sporting events are kind of a big deal in this house. We like to watch the World Cup, Wimbledon, The French Open, but the biggest of all is the Olympics. We watch, cheer and last night we ate.

I wanted to make some traditional British fare, so of course I consulted my favorite – Nigella.

Dinner would be heavy, so we started with a light drink:Pimm’s Cooler

Pimm's Cup

This drink was so good.* I’m not really a gin fan (the base of Pimm’s,) but this drink is so spicy and good. I see why I had to go to two different stores to find Pimm’s.

*Note – I did not eat my cucumber spear b/c cucumbers are gross. Jeremy ate it.

After our apéritif,  we feasted. Bubbles & Squeak (mashed potatoes and cabbage fried up) and Bacon, Chicken, and Mushroom pies. Based on the amount of butter I used, Paula Deen might be British.

After dinner, we shared this delicious porter that we bought at Ale Yeah , possibly my new favorite store.

IMG_1889 This beer was so smooth and full. Mmm. . . enjoyable. I will definitely revisit it this come fall.

Since we had to stay up so late to watch the events, we finished our Brit inspired night with Nigella’s banana bread from How to Be a Domestic Goddess.

I’ve enjoyed the gymnastics, especially Gabby winning GOLD, and swimming, but I’ll be ready for track and field to start. Today, I’m cheering on Serena.  Here’s to another week of competition! Cheers.
