Bye, Bye Laptop

Whether it’s a good or a bad thing, I spend a lot of time with my laptop. I use it for work, for hobbies (blogging, finding crochet patterns, learning how to edit photos better), and for entertainment. Yes, we are the people who both sit with laptops in the living room. Sadly, however that is going to be different for the next few weeks because I have to ship my laptop off to the big Best Buy in the sky.

For some reason, and I really do not know why, my laptop stopped recognizing my battery. Which means instead of a laptop right now, I have a desk top that is actually sitting on a TV table because my lap top always has to be connected to the power cord.

Overall, I haven’t had too many problems with my Sony Vaio VGN-CR410E, but power has been a continual issue. First, the original power cord frayed and begin to short out, this was over the course of a year. Next, the original battery worked well for about a year and then started loosing charge time. So over the course of my warranty I’ve had to order a power cord and a battery, which were both covered but it’s only been 2.5 years. Now, I’m having to send the laptop away to be fixed.

My post may be less frequent because I’ll have to pry Jeremy’s computer out of his hand, but hopefully my computer will return to me quickly.

Thanks to the Twelpforce guys for the info.

5 Things Friday #4

After having a day off last week, this week seemed really long. But it’s Friday so YAY!

Here is what I’m thankful for this week:

  1. Saturday we are going to HARRY POTTER! Yeah, I’m pretty excited. (Me circa 2007 receiving the Deathly Hallows)
  2. I’ve actually been working out this week, and it’s been nice.
  3. Next week is a two day week, and then we’re off to NY.
  4. I’m loving my honors class.  I had them all set up blogs for the class, which is going really well.
  5. It was so warm this week. Jeremy and I were able to spend a lot of time outside jogging or walking.

Push It Ahh. .. Push It Real Good

One of my new favorite blogs is I’m An Okie. I’m not really sure how I found this blog, maybe through Foodbuzz. But it’s obviously a positive space, which I appreciate.  After seeing Lisa talk about The Pushup Challenge for the last few days, I decided I wanted to copy her and give it a try. My fitness hasn’t exactly been where it should lately, and a fun pick me up seems in order. The challenge is to get to 100 Pushups in six weeks. It’s like a pushup marathon. Jeremy said even at his most fit he’s never done 100 pushups at once, so competitive me is excited to give it a try.

I did the initial test on Sunday. While I may have been able to eek out a few more, my 15th push up was a bit wobbly, so I stopped there. That puts me in column three of week 1. Jeremy of course is starting in week 3 because he’s fit like that. I like that it’s only a three day a week challenge.

So we will see where the next six weeks take us.

Note: I’m doing knee pushups.

Delicious Weekend

After both of us being gone last weekend, we were ready for some time at home.

Friday I wanted to make a nice dinner for Jeremy. I swung by the grocery store on the way home and picked up some salmon. I glazed the salmon with soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, and pepper flakes, served fresh green beans and roasted red potatoes.

I had a leftover chicken tender, sometimes I’m just really not feeling the salmon.

Saturday we started cleaning and organizing our attic. It is, without a doubt, a work in progress. There are so many things we need to either trash or take to Goodwill. After working for awhile, we went out for a walk to enjoy the nice warm day. 60 degrees in NH in November is a big treat.

When we got back Jeremy went for a bike ride and I got started on dinner and dessert.
From the time we finished my luxurious dinner entry for Project Food Buzz until yesterday we’ve been thinking about sage roasted pork. For dinner we had roast pork with mushroom gravy, sage stuffing, and parmesan broccoli.

While I’m not a huge mushroom fan because of their texture, the flavor of the dried porcinis is so rich. We both might have had extra stuffing just to eat more gravy.

After watching Fanny’s Last Supper, the PBS documentary about Chris Kimball’s new book, I really wanted to make something from scratch.  While it was intimidating at first, I made cream puffs. They were so easy and would definitely be a great dessert if you were surprised with guests. If you’ve never tried them, you should. The recipe I used came from one of my favorite cook books Better Homes and Gardens New Cook Book: Celebrating the Promise, 14th Limited Edition ‘>Better Homes and Garden.  This cookbook isn’t fancy, but it is so reliable. It is also always on my counter in my cookbook holder.

I filled the puffs with vanilla pudding, which was made with soy milk. Per several websites, if you use soy milk for pudding use half of the milk for which the recipe calls.

After such a relaxing weekend, I’m dreading going back to work a bit. Hopefully, it will be a quick easy week though.

5 Things Friday #4

This week has been challenging. I had trouble with students, my laptop battery broke, grades were due, but then I found out about the death of guy I went to college with. He was only 31 and died while hunting. His wife, who also attended the same college, has two small children and one on the way. When things like this happen, my perspective always shifts a little.

So this week I am enormously thankful for:

  1. My husband: Jeremy and I are best friends. We spend the majority of our time together and usually we are participating in some sort of tom foolery. We laugh far more than we fight. I am thankful he’s here and present in my life. Circa 2002

  2. My job that allows me to pay my bills and offers me health insurance, even when the kids act like little jerk faces.
  3. That I have a winter coat even though I haven’t had to wear it yet. (I’m shooting for Dec.)
  4. I am still thankful I was able to go to MI last week. Seeing all of my friends, especially Kristen, has left me a bit homesick, but it’s good to know there are some people you can pick up with right were you finished the last time.

  5. Even if it is sometimes clouded by what food I’ve eaten or where I’ve travelled, I’m thankful that this blog makes me take time to slow down and be thoughtful about what is happening in my life.

What are you thankful for this week.
