Braves–Chop, Chop. Chop!

I am slowly becoming used to living in a city. There are many benefits to living in a city. Public transportation, diversity, good food and drinks, thee is always something to do. One of the best things to do is to go to a Braves game.

Here are a few tips about going to Braves games:

First, there are only good seats in Turner Field. Some seats are better than others, but even for $10 in general admission you will be able to see a great game. You can buy tickets at the gate, at Braves.com or at Stub Hub.

Before you leave home, grab sunscreen, snacks, and water. You cannot bring in cans, glass, or alcohol. Even a 7:00 start can be sunny, protect your skin.

Next, the fans at Turner Field are great. Being a Yankees fan, I can tell you that Braves fans are generally very friendly. They may rib you a bit if you’re cheering for the other team but it is nothing like being at Yankee Stadium or Fenway.

To make your trip really enjoyable DO NOT DRIVE to a Braves game. Atlanta traffic is a pain in the rump. Park anywhere else and take the train to Five Points.  When you get to Five Points make sure you have another train ride on your Breeze Card or $2.50. At Five Points, you will be able to take a bus to the stadium. There are plenty of busses, do not crowd the people in front of you or say cranky things about waiting in line. Your wait will be short.

Finally, when you get to the game enjoy yourself.  Compared to say Wrigley, Turner Field has a pretty good beer selection. You can get Fat Tire, Leinenkugal’s, Yuengling’s; I’ll take all of that over Old Style or Bud Light. Get a beer, eat something, and then sit back and enjoy the game. Be ready for Thank God I’m a Country Boy and Way Down Yonder on the Chattahoochee. Embrace it!

After the game, you can take the bus back to Five Points. Generally, you only pay for the ride to the stadium. On the way back, MARTA just wants people to get on and move to the middle of the bus.

P.S. I’m still a Yankees fan, but you’ve gotta take what you can get.

What Turning 30 Looks Like

I did it. I turned 30. I’ll be honest, it’s been pretty sweet.

Jeremy and I have been so busy.

A quick recap of the last month or so:

The weekend before my birthday I went to Asheville with my best travel buddy. While it is a beautiful city, all of the beer was so hoppy. I wasn’t a fan. With that said, I go again next weekend if I could. It feels like a little piece of New England tucked away in the South.

Asheville, Maddow, Mixer After Asheville, we went to see Rachel Maddow!!!!! She was intelligent, eloquent, and hilarious. I had to use my camera fully on manual to get pictures. It was an adventure.

This was after pretending to drink like Marc Rubio. I was dying. IMG_2870

I received many wonderful gifts but the highlights were definitely a Kitchen Aid mixer from Jeremy’s mom and a wort chiller and glass carboy from Jeremy.

We’ve also brewed two more beers, went to the first baseball games of the season  and went to the botanical gardens.

There are 24 days of this school year. Things are only going to get more busy. I need to get focused on California and getting fit. It’s been a great spring.

Wine Tasting #15

While it’s not a secret that I’m a craft beer lover, I enjoy wine too. One of the things on my 30 before 30 list was attend a wine tasting.

Jeremy I and live super close to the Little Wine Shop. The name is perfect because it is a very small shop with a great selection of wines. We’ve been in a few times before, but we had never been to a wine tasting there or really anywhere else. Every time we have been there the staff has been extremely friendly and welcoming. Even though we are far from wine experts we feel comfortable at this store.

Tonight’s wine tasting was a flight of Spanish wines. The experience was great. For $10 we tried six wines, had a very informative discussion about the growing regions in northern Spain, and then received a five dollar discount per person per bottle of wine.

It was a great way to spend a Tuesday night, and we will definitely be going again. If you live in Atlanta area, you should definitely stop by the Little Wine Shop for a bottle or a tasting. There’s even free parking.

#11 Drink 10 New Beers

IMAG0332-1

I should have chosen something more challenging. I love trying new beers, so this one was super easy. Most of theses beers have a local flair. These beers win best in show. Porter: Cherry Chocolate Porter by Red Brick Brewery  – I had this at the tasting at Red Brick. It’s definitely a winter beer.  [...]

Trying to Keep Up

IMG_2758

The last few weeks I have been sick. First it was acute bronchitis. It took me about three weeks to get back to some sort of normal. I felt well for about three days. Now I guess it’s allergies or a cold I’m not sure. I’m completely congested and coughing again. Yes, this is me [...]
